In order to gain proper acne control, you first really need to determine the severity of the existing acne that you have. If it is mild, then you will most likely be able to get by using lighter and quicker forms of treatment, but if it is more severe one then obviously you will have to use more serious forms of treatment.

If you are not able to properly diagnose the severity of your acne then your doctor or a dermatologist will be able to do this for you. After this, you will be able to determine the proper form of treatment for your acne.

The most commonly used treatment for acne control is prescription medications, and this includes such products as Accutane and ProActiv. However again you will want to consult with your doctor before you start taking such medication, particularly if you are pregnant or nursing, because these and other related products can cause serious birth defects both in utero and from breastfeeding.

Another form of acne control is topical treatments, and this includes anything that is applied directly onto the skin, such as creams and gels. This method of acne control is also extremely effective and has an incredibly high success rate, and it’s typically what your doctor will recommend for your acne, especially if you have mild to moderate acne.

The most important thing to remember above all else is that if you have acne, you have probably lost self-esteem and self-confidence, because it can be a very irritating problem which can leave you with physical scars and emotional stress.
