The human skin has always responded very well to nutritional supplements in terms of diet, minerals and vitamins. Of the last two, vitamin E is the one that has gained the maximum importance and popularity in the last few years.

To begin with, Vitamin E has very strong antioxidant properties, which means that it might be helpful in preserving the skin and slowing the process of aging. Research also shows that Vitamin E effectively helps in controlling acne, scars, angina, ulcers, stretch marks, varicose veins and pigmentation.

Vitamin E is available in a variety of forms, such as alpha, beta, delta, and gamma tocopherol. Alpha-tocopherol is found to be the most effective for topical use on the skin surface as it contains the highest bioactivity. Clinical studies had shown that it provides great benefits to our skin. The benefits include reduction in scarring and stretch marks. Vitamin E is proven to have regenerative effect on skin and it penetrates deeply into the skin to stimulate the growth of new cells, replacing the scar tissue found under stretch marks.

Vitamin E is also well known for preventing acne. The antioxidant properties of vitamin E helps to prevent the hardening of trapped oils under our skin and hence lower the possibility of the skin getting inflamed and producing acne.

There are various food substances that have rich source of Vitamin E and should be consumed to get a good supply of this nutrient. Such food items include beef, liver, green peas, vegetable oils, eggs, turnip and sunflower oil. Vitamin E is also found in oil that comes from soybeans, in wheat germ, cottonseeds, maize and green leaves such as lettuce.
